Green Cleaning's Role in a Sustainable Building

Room Number: 318
Presenter(s): Stephen P. Ashkin, Chief Executive Officer
Sustainability Dashboard Tools, LLC

Today, Green Cleaning is often thought of as the proverbial "low hanging fruit" when it comes to greening a building. This presentation will skip the "touchy – feely" stuff and the "do it because it's the right thing to do" and get right into the specifics of what a facility manager really needs to know and do to make implementing a Green Cleaning program effective consistent with the requirements of the U.S. Green Building Council's LEED for Existing Buildings Rating System. This program is designed for facilities that use both an in-house cleaning staff, as well as for those that out-source their cleaning services.

Learning Objective:

1. Define Green and Green Cleaning

2. Identify an appropriate "roadmap" for designing a Green Cleaning program (i.e. LEED-EB)

3. Identify the appropriate national standards for various categories of cleaning products

4. Address health, performance, cost and other pressing issues
