An organization’s focus on sustainability goes well beyond the walls of commercial and institutional facilities. To create landscapes that are sustainable, maintainable and aesthetically pleasing, grounds managers must define project goals and have an expansive role in designing, building, and maintaining the landscapes. Panelists in this session will discuss: the importance of communication between grounds and facility mangers and landscape architects during major projects; specifying plants that contribute to sustainability initiatives; developing an integrated pest management program; and implementing effective and sustainable grounds maintenance activities.
Learning Objective:
1. Highlight the three phases of sustainable landscape projects, including design, construction and maintenance, to better understand the key role grounds managers play in all phases
2. Understand the elements that comprise sustainable landscapes, including plant specification, irrigation, pest management and green maintenance practices
3. Define the relationship between grounds managers and facility managers and discuss the way that synergy helps create sustainable, maintainable landscapes
