A broad description of mass notification system is that it is both a communications and emergency management tool, intended to provide information and instructions to people in a building, area, site, or geographic area using intelligible voice communications and visible signals, text, graphics, tactile, or other communication methods. The concept of Mass Notification was born out of our collective inability to maintain communications and direct building occupants to safety during the events of 9/11 and Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. This session will help all facilities learn about developing and maintaining an effective MNS.
Learning Objective:
1. Learn the definition and requirements for Mass Notification Systems (MNS) and how they are applied in facilities
2. Learn what is now available in National Codes and Standards related to MNS
3. Learn the basic design parameters of implementing MNS and criteria used to evaluate the needs and application
