How Facility Managers Can Get the Most from Their Security System

There’s a reason your costs are going up and your security is failing. All stakeholders; i.e., architects, engineers, facility managers, occupants, planners and security professional see things differently. Most often security systems are added as an afterthought to any new construction project and for major renovation projects. We will examine the different viewpoints of the stakeholders, identify how to design space based on threat and still keep it aesthetically pleasing and finally, how to keep short term and long term costs manageable by setting parameters for implementation.

1. Stakeholder “buy in” from the on-set of a project is important.
2. Understanding that an agreement of stakeholders on what you’re designing against will keep both short/long term costs manageable, immediately and in the future.
3. Creating usable space is about implementing four general rules for sound security design practices that everyone can agree on.
4. Identifying ways of maintaining security effectiveness creates an environment where people want to live, work and play there.
