Design Considerations for Climate Change

Our surrounding environment is always changing, but the impacts of climate change are becoming more noticeable. The speakers will discuss what portions of building enclosure design and layout of interior spaces may be most impacted by these changes. They will provide considerations for designers, property owners, and facility managers for enhanced roofing and waterproofing systems, components to improve fenestration performance, and work in progress in the USA on addressing our impact and the impact our environment can have on us.

Learning Objectives:
1. Review how to better assess short term and long term building enclosure performance objectives related to climate change
2. Examine the impact on design decisions for fenestration, roofing, and waterproofing
3. Understand how to better coordinate HVAC system layout and enclosure design on new construction and impacts on existing infrastructure
4. Understand various strategies to future proof buildings and innovative design systems such as reactive exterior screens and solar chimneys
