Designing for Maintainability: What FM Professionals Should Expect from the Design Team

FM professionals constantly deal with facility operation challenges. Performing unnecessarily onerous, costly, and sometimes unsafe maintenance for building roofs and facades shouldn’t be one of them. This session uses case studies and offers practical advice to highlight how architects/engineers can sensibly design with future maintainability in mind, and how FM professionals can successfully engage in the process.

Learning Objectives:
1. Discuss how key design decisions on a rooftop can affect facility maintenance costs, schedules, and safety
2. Understand how key design decisions related to building facades can affect facility maintenance costs, schedules, and safety
3. Give reasonably anticipated service life durations of key roofing and facade materials
4. Understand how facility management professionals can successfully engage in the design process
