ISO 55000 Changing the Conversation

For years we have been talking about improving facility performance, establishing consistency in services across our portfolios, improving the quality of the delivered services and most important improving profits. Could ISO 55000 be the final step in the changing the conversation from viewing the facility management organization and facility assets as support costs to the point that the facility management organizations and the facility assets be viewed as a source of revenue?

ISO 5500 Asset Management is the new international standard for the management of a facility's assets. While its origin may be industrial, the standard applies to all types of facilities and assets; and is equally effect for small to global organizations. The policies and procedures of the standard will directly align management of the facility's assets with the organization's objective. Through aggressive asset management, organizations will not only realize improvement in cost-effective operations and a balance of operating expenses and capital expenses, but also realize improvements in the environment and increase employee productivity. As an early adopter we can provide insights and lessons learned with the process and the benefits achieved.
