Understanding Surge Protection Devices

Attend this session on surge protection devices (SPD) to learn about the transient environment, product design, application & tiered protection, installation and the NEC. The first section will discuss what transients are and where they originate. The second section examines the design of surge suppression devices. The third section discusses how to provide the best protection in the most efficient and economical manner. The fourth section covers proper installation under the National Electrical Code (NEC).

1. Clarify the different types of surges and where they originate
2. Understand the differences between the types of surge protective device designs and why they are necessary
3. Describe the most efficient way to provide proper surge protection for a facility electrical system
4. Define the proper installation of surge protective devices and why it is critical to the operation of the surge protector
