T3.5
Building Performance Strategies

Sustainable building performance strategies consist of six fundamental components; site, energy, water, materials, indoor air quality, and maintenance. Optimizing the site takes into consideration the location, orientation, landscaping, impact on neighborhood and local ecosystems, transportation, parking, and physical security. Optimizing energy use will minimize dependence on fossil fuels by maximizing energy efficiency, and incorporating renewable energy technologies into the final design. Architects, builders and owners need to consider the concept of net zero energy buildings on every project.

Learning Objectives:

1. Participants will learn the six components of a building performance strategy
2. Participants will learn benchmarking methods to measure the components of a building performance strategy
3. Participants will learn potential methods to improve the building performance strategy
4. Participants will observe examples of successful building performance strategies.
