Controlling the Hidden Costs in Your Electric Bill

If gas was 50 percent cheaper at night than during the day, when would you fill up? At night, if you want to save money. So why don't we do this for commercial buildings? Regardless of the pricing structure a utility provides, the cost of electricity for commercial buildings is nearly 50 percent cheaper at night, once demand charges are accounted for. Demand side management and peak load reduction strategies allow facility managers to optimize energy purchases by disconnecting consumption of electricity from when it's purchased. This session will discuss strategies for understanding your utility bill's hidden costs and cutting operating costs.

Learning Objectives:
1. Gain a deeper understanding of your electric bill and how (kW) demand significantly impacts energy costs
2. Apply information from the presentation to effectively identify the cost benefits of energy storage
3. Discuss opportunities in local incentives demand response and real-time pricing
4. Learn from real world examples of how facility managers are using permanent load shifting strategies to reduce cooling and operating costs
