What’s your Power Quality I.Q?

Most critical facilities have energy management programs (at varying degrees of maturity) in place. However, organizations often suffer from low "PQ IQ" (power quality intelligence quotient) by severely underestimating two critical, related dimensions of operations management - power reliability and power quality (PQ). This presentation will examine the hidden effects of poor PQ, associated costs, and pertinent industry standards. Understanding common categories of PQ phenomena, and typical analysis tools/skills can help manage critical power infrastructure effectively. Traditionally, such expertise has been confined to consultants, but modern analytics tools now make PQ data more accessible to operational staff, allowing for proactive management.

Learning Objectives:
1. Examine the industry standards that address power quality 2. Identify the common categories of power quality problems
3. Explain the impact of power quality problems and estimate associated costs
4. List typical tools and skills needed to monitor and manage power quality from a facility operational perspective
