Overcoming Environmental Health & Safety Challenges Many Facilities Managers Face

A Facility Manager's role continues to expand throughout the entire organization and continues to diversify and increase in terms of responsibilities, which makes the job of a Facility Manager very challenging and difficult. Perhaps one of the most challenging responsibilities for a Facility Manager is the management of Environmental, Health & Safety (EH&S) issues. With today's "green" society, EH&S issues have become prominent in a Facility Manager's life. Unfortunately, many key EH&S issues are often overlooked at facilities. When key EH&S issues are overlooked, significant problems will develop. Sometimes little attention is paid to many key EH&S issues at a facility until they affect the bottom line, where they may result in costly expenditures to resolve. However, when these key overlooked EH&S issues are properly managed: the facility's image and reputation improves, the facility's operations become more efficient, and the Facility Manager becomes more valuable to the organization. This session will outline steps to help Facility Managers be better prepared to address these overlooked EH&S issues. The Core Four Building Blocks for developing a strong EH&S management program at any type of facility will be discussed. Common overlooked EH&S issues and problem areas that exist at many facilities will be identified and viable solutions to address and manage these issues will be reviewed.
