Monitoring-Based Commissioning (MBCx) for New Construction

 View All Sessions

About this session:

The traditional way of implementing monitoring-based commissioning (MBCx) has been to integrate a fault-detection and diagnostics (FDD) software solution with an existing building automation system to uncover operational inefficiencies within an existing building. The project highlighted for this session, was a pilot project through ComEd's Utility Incentive Program for New Construction. The session will cover specifics on how we approached the design and architecture of the FDD software solution, an overview of the program currently being offered by ComEd, some common challenges associated with integration and implementation of MBCx within a critical facility and performance metrics to highlight success.

1. Understand how to approach monitoring-based commissioning for newly constructed facilities.
2. Comprehend how to leverage utility incentive programs to offset first cost.
3. List how to maximize building optimization and energy efficiency in a critical facility leveraging MBCx.
4. Review how to approach developing customized fault detection and diagnostic rules for a unique facility.
