About this session:
How can FM teams work with more transparency and efficiency while also keeping building occupants safe in the post-COVID-19 world? The answer lies in BIM data. Building Information Modeling (BIM) is the technological tool that architects and contractors use to create buildings. Oftentimes, the lifecycle of a BIM model ends after construction. Not anymore. Join architect and technologist Zach Soflin, AIA, who will explain what BIM data is and how FMs and Building Owners can leverage it after its handover from the design/construction teams. He will introduce key strategies for harvesting, reusing, and adding to existing BIM models and data. He will also demonstrate how to create one single source of truth for increasing the speed and accuracy of how FM teams respond to common day-to-day tasks and challenges. In addition, attendees will learn how to integrate BIM data into their current tech stack and explore how these efficiencies can help FM teams plans for future design and construction projects.

1. Attendees will learn what BIM is, its role in the building lifecycle, and which BIM data is important (and which isn’t).
2. Attendees will learn the key ways FMs and Building Owners can leverage BIM for better efficiency, team communication, and accountability
3. Attendees will learn how to use BIM files with no knowledge of BIM software.
4. Attendees will learn how to leverage BIM data to plan for future remodels, additions, and new construction projects.
