NFMT 2019 Session

Building Envelope Leaks: How to Identify, Solve, and Prevent

View All Sessions

About this session:

When leaks occur in the interior of a building, they always occur as a result of problems with the roof, right? Not exactly. The exterior elements such as sunlight, temperature variations, water, and building movement can deteriorate building facades causing safety, maintenance, and waterproofing issues. This program focuses on building envelope technologies. The most common wall systems and various components found within each system including masonry, concrete, windows, cladding and curtain walls will be reviewed. We will discuss how to diagnose problems that commonly occur in the building envelope and review key design principles that all facility professionals must know when implementing weatherproofing solutions.

1. Differentiate the most common wall systems and the critical elements that impact weatherproofing per formance.
2. Review common components found within most wall systems and how they affect overall per formance.
3. Identify common problems related to the exterior building envelope.
4. Review key design principles that all facility professionals must know when implementing building solutions for the building envelope.
