Drone Mapping and Laser Scanning: Transforming Facilities Management

About this session:

Drones and laser scanning have the ability to provide a broad aerial view as well as collect high precision data and have revolutionized the construction industry, especially projects on academic campuses. This session will introduce best practices for how this data can be implemented by construction teams, designers, owners, and facility managers.

1. Review how data from drone programs and laser scans can streamline decision making by accessing the most relevant information at every stage of a project, including 3D, highly accurate existing conditions documented during close-out.
2. List how the Reality Capture Process can utilize data collection to inform decision making, streamline construction, decrease costs, and increase onsite safety.
3. Describe how to share the data captured by drone and laser scanners through Virtual Reality applications for facility management.
4. Identify how to import data from laser scans into facility management software and existing workflow system.
