 View All Sessions

About this session:

The sheer volume of building, fire and life safety codes available to a Facility Manager can be overwhelming  especially when trying to find one specific section like a needle in a haystack. This presentation will provide an overview of codes and standards used in building maintenance specifically related to fire protection and life safety elements. The intent is to provide a basic summary of the model building codes available including the International Building Code and International Fire Code. In addition, NFPA, ANSI, ADAAG and other standards will be presented. A guide to identifying the right code, finding the right chapter/section and navigating to the specific requirement will be reviewed. Finally, a review of working with local Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs) will be offered. Topics covered will include: change of use/tenant finishes; fire department inspections; system upgrades and code enforcement.
